A.   Mission Statement (Sứ mệnh của Trường đại học Công nghiệp Tp. Hồ Chí Minh)

The mission of Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City is published in the document "Strategy of IUH in 2016-2020 period and vision to 2025", which can be found at http://www.iuh.edu.vn/. An English translation is:

“The University offers high quality human resources; with professional skills in the fields of engineering, technology, scientific research and technology transfer; contributing effectively to the socio-economic development of the Industry and Trade sector and country.”

B.   Introduction the Biological Technology Program (Giới thiệu về chương trình đào tạo ngành Công nghệ Sinh học)

Biological Technology (BT) is a multidisciplinary field that combines biological engineering, biotechnology, the physical sciences, biology, agriculture, mechanics, and electricity to operate the system and focus on production processes for the industrial and agricultural sector.  BT includes the practical application of mechanical, biological, chemical, industrial, and instrumentation and control engineering technologies for producing high-tech agricultural products, services and the products that is improving the quality of agriculture. In addition to the faculty dedicated to BT, the program uses faculty from Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science and Technology Institute, Business management, General department, IT, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering programs to maintain and development program adapting the updating of curriculum focus on engineering and technology. With the strength of agricultural raw material in our country, BT get a contribution to Vietnam manufacturers/businessmen to improve and develop high-tech agriculture, that bring economic efficiency to the country

The biological technology program integrate the knowledge and skill of analysis, design and operate the biological system with applied biology to solve problems in agriculture production, large-scale biotechnical production, control of biological systems, and bio-based materials production.

The program education focus on the mechanisms and processes for the sustainable production using biological sources. The program also focus on the challenges in scaling up laboratory developments to industrial production, including production and application of bio-control agents for pests and diseases; genetically altered organisms; biomaterials and food products; and microbial production of biological products, tissue culture, and bioremediation. The program also concentrated on the research and development of test-kits to detect microorganisms and specific substances, useful in the development of products based on biological processes and materials.

Biological technologists work in the biotech industries on process design and operation, scale-up, and instrumentation and control.


C.   Program Educational Objectives (Mục tiêu chương trình đào tạo)

The program has defined Program Educational Objectives (PEO) to be accomplishments that we expect our graduates to have achieved 5 years after graduation. We expect that our graduates, within 5 years after graduation, will achieve the following goals in their careers:

  • Analyze, design, and provide technical and managerial solution for practical biological technology systems.
  • Communicate effectively and work well on team-based engineering and managerial projects.
  • Be successful in biological technology positions and related areas as demonstrated by promotions, increased responsibility, or other professional recognitions.
  • Consider the environmental consequences of their engineering activities
  • Pursue continued professional development and higher degree programs.

D.   Student Outcomes (Chuẩn đầu ra)

Graduates of Biological technology program will have

  1. An ability to select and apply the knowledge, techniques, skill and modern tools of the biological technology appropriate to their disciplines;
  2. An ability to select and apply a knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to biological technology problems that require the application of principles and applied procedures or methodologies;
  3. An ability to conduct standard test and measurements; to conduct, analyze, and interpret experiments; and to apply experimental results to improve processes;
  4. An ability to design systems, components, or processes for biological technology problems appropriate to program educational objectives;
  5. An ability to function effectively as a member of a technical teams;
  6. An ability to identify, analyze and solve biological technology problems;
  7. An ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in both technical and nontechnical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literatures;
  8. An understanding of the need for, and ability to engage in, continuing professional development;
  9. An understanding of professional, bio-ethical, legal, biosecurity, and social issues and responsibilities;
  10. A knowledge of the impact of biological technology solutions in a societal and global context;
  11. A commitment to quality, timeline, and continuous improvement;
